“The exhibition is comprised of five wooden panels and two masks working the theme of Axis-mundi; mythically rising from the navel of the earth to the pole star. It represents the centre pole or column of the house that is the cosmic world. The axis-mundi (world axis) is a very special form of axis that is formed by the imaginary line between a significant or sacred place and the centre of the earth or the stars. An axis-mundi is perhaps a special, transcendental manifestation of genius loci (spirit of place).”
